Fugro was founded in 1962, has been listed on Euronext N.V. in Amsterdam since 1992 and has been included in the Amsterdam Midkap index since 2002. Fugro has over 250 offices, about 7,000 staff and a permanent presence in almost 60 countries.

Fugro collects and interprets data related to the earth's surface and the soils and rocks beneath. It provides advice based on the results, generally for purposes related to the oil and gas industry, mining and the construction of buildings or civil engineering structures. Fugro operates around the world at sea, on land and from the air. Their highly specialized staff use advanced technologies, data gathering equipment and systems, many of which have been developed in-house.

Fugro's organization is comprised of three divisions: Geotechnical Services, Survey Services and Geoscience Services. The Marine Survey Division is the largest survey company on the globe and is one of the world's foremost hydrographic survey contractors, having provided services to both government and industry for more than 30 years. Fugro's Marine Survey Division has approximately 40 strategically located operating companies that provide support to Fugro Pelagos' customers and projects worldwide.
