Airborne Lidar Bathymetry operations are very dependent on water clarity.
Turbidity, breaking waves, rapids and algae bloom all have a negative
impact on the performance of Airborne Lidar Bathymetry systems.
The SHOALS-1000T can typically detect the seafloor at two to three
times Secchi depths. Ideally, water clarity conditions should be
considered when scheduling an Airborne Lidar Bathymetry operation.
There are several techniques, which Fugro can employ to minimize
the effect or impact of poor water clarity.
