Coastal countries look to the United
Nations Convention on the Law Of the Sea (UNCLOS)
as the basis for the international jurisdiction of
their ocean territory. UNCLOS endows rights for adjacent
marine resources of the seabed and overlying waters;
responsibility for environmental sustainability, including
living resources and pollution; and a regime for winning
extended territorial claims beyond the traditional
200-nautical-mile EEZ.
Fugro Pelagos' experience embodies
more than 50 years in hydrography, geophysics, geology
and geodesy. The company offers a range of products
and services: EEZ mapping, environmental and met-ocean
surveys, worldwide Differential GPS (DGPS) services
and Vessel Tracking System (VTS) products and services
with integrated control center and monitoring software,
all in support of UNCLOS claims.
The company has carried out over 100,000 km of transoceanic surveys in recent years. Over half of this has been to full ocean depth, which is essential for UNCLOS surveying.
A proven purpose-built full-ocean-depth
survey vessel with the latest in global navigation,
swath bathymetric and 2D seismic systems has been
integrated with the strength of our worldwide marine
survey organization into an impressive cost-effective
solution for UNCLOS surveying.
