The WinFrog Long Baseline (LBL)
Acoustic Module provides both control and application
of the industry's leading LBL hardware. Available
as an extension to the core WinFrog program, this
module supports full integration of LBL acoustics,
with proven acoustic calibration and real-time positioning
algorithms, to WinFrog's surface navigation and positioning
capabilities.
WinFrog LBL not only supports conventional
positioning of underwater objects using fixed bottom
transponders and a single deck unit with one transducer
but offers even more through control and synchronization
of multiple LBL deck units with multiple transducers.
The underwater objects to be positioned can use relay,
simultaneous, sequential or cyclic transponders.
For calibration, WinFrog LBL uses
a rigorous weighted least squares adjustment that
is extremely flexible in its configuration. WinFrog
can collect surface ranges and, if supported by the
hardware, baseline measurements.
Fugro Pelagos has extensive operational
and programming experience with LBL acoustics, including
specially engineered solutions for applications that
maximize LBL acoustic capabilities.
Fugro Pelagos, in cooperation with
a major offshore contractor, completed design and
testing on a new method of LBL called Inverted LBL.
This technique allows for accurate positioning and
mating of objects underwater without a transponder
field being set up on the seabed. This allows easier
and less expensive field operations in deeper water.
