OPERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: AIRCRAFT

The SHOALS-1000T is the smallest, lightest airborne Lidar bathymeter available. It is one-third the size of its predecessor and is completely portable, meaning it can be installed on a variety of aircraft, including both rotary and fixed wing. Its portability reduces mobilization / demobilization costs considerably, as the system can be shipped around the world and installed on suitable aircraft of opportunity near the work site.

The system is typically installed in a twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft with at least a six-seat configuration. A minimum of four seats is generally removed to mount the equipment. The laser itself fits over a standard photogrammetric port in the aircraft. At least 65A @ 28VDC power must be available.

The following are fixed wing aircraft capable of supporting the SHOALS-1000T:
- Beechcraft 65A90-1 King Air
- Beechcraft A200 King Air
- Beechcraft King Air 350
- Cesna 404 Titan
- Turbo Commander 690A
- Britten-Norman Islander
- DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter
